Doxiadis Unit

The “SPYROS DOXIADIS” DIAGNOSTIC & THERAPEUTIC UNIT FOR CHILDREN is a non-profit, non-governmental scientific organization.

It is the first interdisciplinary scientific team in Greece, founded in 1982 for the developmental and emotional health of children and adolescents, for the protection and development of their personality and well-being.

Founder and inspirer of the Unit, was Professor of Paediatrics, Spyros Doxiadis, who firmly believed that the best way of approaching the compound developmental issues of infancy and childhood is through the collaboration of health professionals from all fields in the context of an interdisciplinary group.

The keystone of its philosophy, is the holistic and spherical medical approach, both physical and psychosocial, to the developmental and emotional health disorders of children and adolescents.

From its foundation till the present day, Doxiadis Unit has functioned uninterrupted, providing specialized services to more than 200,000 children and families in Athens and regional Greece.

Doxiadis Unit functions in the context of primary health care.

Our Mission

To provide diagnostic and therapeutic services to the child and her/his family, based on documented scientific practices.

To promote research, educational and therpeutical activity focused on the child, for the improvement of both her/his physical and mental health, for the protection and development of the child’s personality and well-being, and also the betterment of the natural and family environment.

To contribute social and community service for the public benefit.

To submit proposals in the context of national or EU programmes pertaining to activities the organization is developing.

To enhance the awareness of scientific and social community as a whole, or representative groups, bodies of public or private law, in order to better understand the child- his/her development, her/his needs, his/her difficulties for the improvement of her/his physical and mental health and the child’s well-being.

To organize and provide prevention actions aimed at the child and her/his environment.
